EFSA is organising an Information session for applicants on “The safety of cannabidiol as a novel food: data gaps and uncertainties” which will take place from 15:00 to 17:00 on the 28th of June 2022.

This information session is addressed to stakeholders and applicants for uses of cannabidiol (CBD) as a novel food. Registrations are open until June 17th, at 17:00 Italy’s time EOB. More detailed information can be found in the announcement on EFSA website.


Webinar on software tool for celiac disease risk assessment of proteins

The EFSA webinar on “software tool for celiac disease risk assessment of proteins” is scheduled on June 30th from 16:30 to 18:00 (CEST).

This is an opportunity to present the software tool that EFSA is developing to identify peptides binding to HLA-DQ2 and/or HLA-DQ8 proteins and to predict their binding affinities.

Representatives of business operators, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as laboratories and testing facilities are invited to attend. Registrations are open until June 28th. More information is available on the EFSA website.


Workshop on Risk Ranking of Hazards in Foods

The Swedish Food Agency, together with the Finnish Food Authority, will organize a 2-day workshop to discuss the state-of-the-art in risk ranking of hazards in food. The workshop will be held on October 19th to 20th, 2022, in Uppsala, Sweden. On-line participation will also be possible.

The workshop is directed towards professionals within the sectors of risk analysis - primarily risk assessment, but also risk management and risk communication. By risk ranking we mean 1) ranking of chemical and/or microbiological hazard with respect to single or multiple foods/food groups, or 2) ranking of foods/food groups with respect to single or multiple hazards.

More information can be found on the website. The registration deadline for on-site participation is July 15th, 2022. Physical participation is limited to 65 persons. Participation is free of charge.


EFSA Parma Summer School "Risk Assessment of regulated products"

The 2022 Parma Summer School is organized by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the University of Parma, the School of Advanced Studies on Food and Nutrition and the Catholic University Sacro Cuore of Piacenza.

It will provide early-career researchers an opportunity to learn from some of the most prominent experts in the field of risk assessment of regulated food products.

The Summer School is primarily intended for PhD and early-career researchers, as well as other scientists, academics, and representatives from public institutions, non-governmental organisations and European agencies. Registrations are open until the 30th of June and more information is available on the EFSA website and on the event website.


Training course on Health risk assessment of endocrine disruptors

The Institute of Environmental Medicine of the Karolinska Institutet offers the course “Health risk assessment of endocrine disruptors” in autumn 2022. The course will be held September 26th to 30th as an online course.

The course is intended for PhD students and other participants from academia as well as participants from authorities and industry. The application deadline is August 19th, 2022. More information can be found here.

Now online: BfR World Food Safety Almanac

The German EFSA Focal Point is pleased to announce the launch of the Online BfR World Food Safety Almanac.

The BfR Online World Food Safety Almanac is a reference tool that provides users with detailed information about countries' public food and feed safety institutions and structures. To date, the BfR has published several almanacs in print and pdf forms. We believe that the new Online BfR Almanac will be able to reach a wider audience and better serve the purpose of encouraging international collaboration in the area of public food and feed safety. Currently, the Online BfR World Food Safety Almanac includes profiles for the EU member states as well as for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Kosovo, Montenegro, Norway, Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey. We plan to expand the project to more countries in the immediate future.

EFSA Call for Seconded National Experts

The Integrated Data unit at EFSA is looking for a new Seconded National Expert (SNE) who will be involved in EFSA activities related to food consumption and food composition data including the activities related to the FoodEx2 classification system.

EFSA is looking for candidates experienced in: 1) collection and analysis of food consumption data and/or 2) compilation of food composition data and /or 3) international food classification systems such as FoodEx2, LanguaL, Codex Alimentarius and 4) writing scientific reports in English.

Further information on the SNE call and rules on the secondment to the EFSA are available here. Please note that, according to the point 5 of the Article 1, the employer shall continue to pay the salary and social contributions to the SNE during the period of secondment while, according to the Article 16, subsistence and monthly allowance are paid by EFSA to cover the SNE living expenses during the secondment.
